Pat Reeves - practitioner of nutritional and functional medicine

From A Vegan Guide To Bristol 2005.

Since 1975 I have known that I carry a familial genetic implication of cancer, my entire family have succumbed. Between then and 1984 - when I was initially diagnosed with a brain tumour, I spent considerable time and endeavour researching what the future could hold for me. I achieved a high level of fitness through competitive swimming, triathlons, marathon running, body building and eventually power lifting - a sport which captured my heart in 1989, I currently retain the British Masters champion title, am actively competitive - last week amazingly qualifying for 2005 championships. I have been fortunate to win at World and European level.

In the mid-eighties I began a modified Gerson therapy and followed advice of the Bristol Cancer Help Centre. Already then vegan for over twenty years, this was not difficult. My studies, research and application of nutritional therapy, as I understand it then, were so successful, I subsequently became a qualified practitioner in nutritional medicine, with a view to supporting people with compromised health In the 1990’s the cancer re-inverted itself into a more insidious form. With a terminal diagnosis of a rare form of osteosar coma - incurring four heart attacks and a mini-stroke at the end of 2003 - and inroads into my liver last year and my remaining kidney this year - the objective of my treatment has always been one of supporting my immune system.

Ultimately this is all I have to win with. There has been no conventional treatment and I have thus supported myself with a dietary dogma that excludes anything which could negatively influence my situation. I have built up a Living Foods protocol into a veritable art form - foods and juices that entirely contain their original enzyme content. This can exert a life-changing effect on the outcome of chronic disease. Recently utilizing higher amounts of Udo’s Oil Blend over and above my long term usage of ground mixed seeds has been very successful in enhancing my training/recovery from recent competition. It has helped with the worst of problems and despite obvious on-going setbacks.

I am convinced I would not be here now without my embracing this living-food modality for the last fourteen years. I have a fierce desire to win, both the disease, which currently totals thirteen bone tumours, and at my chosen sport. Years ago I purchased the Green Power Juicer from Savars Distribution - which is used on a daily basis - facilitating my wheat grass and organic vegetable juice intake. Juicing wheat grass and other living greens forms the basis of my daily regime. I regularly conduct Living Food days in the West Midlands where my patients and their friends and colleagues can avail themselves of this highly immune-enhancing lifestyle. Living Foods can become dips, spreads, ‘cheese’ ‘bread’ ‘ice-cream’ etc - in fact just about anything produced without damaging heat and therefore retaining their high nutritional content In spite of a conventionally - speaking bleak outlook with a no-hope cancer, I have continually trained, competed and currently work with my patients in UK and internationally utilising an array of allied therapies which address all aspects of uniquely balanced health. This body works in unity thus, whatever the malady, a healing rationale requires a holistic approach to achieve long-term success. I have found this to be highly effective when working with the individual biochemistry of my patients.

My personal philosophy is that I expect more from myself than anyone else ever could. Sadly, it seems that too much of modern life is taken up in searching for answers, instead of remaining in awe at life’s immensity and accepting one’s own humility. This has strengthened my resolve enormously. My endless determination to defeat this intractable illness and to assist others in similar circumstances is passionately intact and I remain committed to my quest. Whatever it takes, you need to embrace a lifestyle which balances mind, body and spirit harmoniously to achieve the result you seek - what ever that may be.

Conceive, believe and achieve.
