Redwood Wholefoods
Redwood wholefoods came into existence in the nineties when husband and wife team Jeremy and Jenny King, who between them already boasted many years experience in the natural foods arena, spotted a rather large gap in the market and decided to fill it.
There were plenty of meat-free products on the market, but they nearly all appeared to contain egg. There was also a lack of variety when it came to tasty, flavoursome and visually appealing products. So the Kings decided to make their own.
As a result, there are now over 40 products in their range, all of them vegan and all of them rich in imagination, flavour and texture. From the turkey-style celebration roast and meat free bacon to tasty dairy-free cheeses and succulent fish alternatives, there is enough on hand to satisfy even the most hardcore meat-eaters.
Recent additions to the range have included delicious new organic foods, including schnitzels, golden breaded nuggets, sausages in frankfurter, curry, merguez and gyros styles,as well as vegetarian mushroom pate and gourment slices.
And earlier this year,a whole range of fish alternatives appeared, including vegan versions of tuna, fish steaks, golden breaded scampi and a smoked salmon pate.
Which all adds up to a range that is not only perfect for people looking to change their diet and introduce more healthy options, but also for committed vegans and veggies seeking out convenient alternatives to their present choices. Many vegans say they don't generally like meat "substitues" - once they've given meat up they don't feel the need to revisit the territory - but the schnitzels are worth a try for anybody, I swear. All these products are available at your local wholefood shop,or on line.
So why did Redwood so bravely decide to sponsor the first ever Bristol Vegan Fayre? After all, they don't even know the organisers, Yaoh, let alone ever done business with them. Well, you'd have to ask Redwood that, but they have a superb reputation in the trade for supporting projects of this kind, and are extremely successful in combining quality products and high ethics with imaginative marketing, so it seems natural that they should support a venture of this kind - for which many Bristol folk are extremely grateful, I might add, given the resounding success of the show!
My personal thanks to all at Redwood for all their help on the Fayre and with the guide. Nice one, fellas, much appreciated.
