The Vegan Society
Health
In 2004 the Vegan society celebrated its Dianond Jubilee - 60 years of making a difference to people, animals and the enviroment through the promotion of the vegan diet. we marked our 60th year with an eclectic range of events and activities, including a lavish clebration ball and one vegan pilgrimage from Calanais, on the Isle of Lewis, to London's Trafalgar Quare. Events such as these helped us gain valuable press coverage for the vegan diet and lifestyle. Now we're looking to the future. With your help we can ensure that over the next 60 years veganism continues to grow and develop into an internationally recognized and celebrated lifestyle One of the main objectives of the Vegan Society is to educate people about the health benefits and nutritional aspects of veganism. The Vegan Society's Plant Based Nutrition and Health draws together the latest nutritional findings and makes it difficult for anyone to argue that people need meat and dairy products to thrive. In 2005, booklets on vegan nutrition are being distributed to healthcare professionals - ensuring that these influential people are fully informed about the vegan diet.
Education
This year's major educational project is the production of a CD-ROM for GCSE students. Covering the whole range of issues surrounding veganism, this CD is aimed at educating teenagers about where their food comes from and the global impact their choices can have. We plan to launch it in the Autumn term. so look out for it appearing at a school near you.
Vegan Products - Food, Toiletries, Cosmetics ....
The Vegan Society is dedicated to increasing the availability of vegan products. Never before has there been such a wide range of animal-free goods to choose from, and with more and more companies siging up to use our Vegan logo, it's becoming ever easier to shop with confidence. The 7th edition of the Vegan Society's Animal Free Shopper is published in 2005. This little pocket-sized book brings together the vegan lists of hundreds of manufacturers, and is an invaluable guide for vegan consumers.
Catering, Restaurants, Hospitals, Prisons
We provide support and information to caterers.advising them on new recipes and new ways to veganise their usual dishes. This applies not only to restaurants and cafes, but to prisons, hospitals, schoools - anywhere where food is served. We also operate the "Sunflower Standard" - a trademark for restaurants and caterers to use to show which dishes are suitable for vegans.
